Diesel in a petrol car in Leicestershire? We fix it on the spot
Diesel in a petrol car is less common than the other way round, because the diesel nozzle is usually too big for a petrol filler. When it does happen, the car will soon run badly. We cover Leicester, Hinckley and the rest of Leicestershire, day and night.

Why diesel in a petrol car needs draining, not driving
A petrol engine lights its fuel with a spark; diesel needs heat and high compression to burn. Diesel in a petrol tank coats the spark plugs in unburnt oil, so the engine misfires, smokes and stalls. It’s usually less destructive than petrol in a diesel, but it still needs a thorough low-pressure flush to clear the oil out of the lines.
Our van drains the tank, flushes the system and refills it with the right fuel, wherever the car is safely parked in Leicestershire.

Leaving the engine off keeps the wrong fuel in the tank, where it can be drained cleanly. That’s the difference between a drain and a new fuel pump.
- Keep the ignition off. Even turning the key far enough to light the dashboard starts the electric fuel pump, which draws the wrong fuel into the lines and the engine.
- Keep the car where it is. Don’t drive it. If it’s blocking a pump, put it in neutral and push it by hand into a parking bay.
- Don’t top up with the right fuel. Adding fresh fuel won’t dilute the mix enough to protect a high-pressure pump.
- Call us straight away. Tell us where you are and what went in, and we’ll send the nearest van.
How to tell you’ve put diesel in a petrol car
Diesel smells oily rather than sharp, and the nozzle is normally black and wider than a petrol one. Squeezed in, or poured from a can, it soon shows: the engine misfires and splutters, white or grey smoke comes from the exhaust, power drops away and the car may stall. The more it runs, the more oil coats the spark plugs and the catalytic converter, so stop as soon as you notice and don’t restart.
